Riga Art Nouveau Museum – one of the newest museums in the city. Opened specially for modern art style lovers.

Riga stands in a row with other major European capitals where Art Nouveau (or Jugenstil as it called in Riga) had been widely represented. Art Nouveau with a huge number of the most exquisite jewellery – a real gem of Riga.

Among its “ancestors” are – architects Konstantin Pēkšēns and Mikhail Eisenstein, father of the famous film director, author of the cult film “Battleship Potemkin.”

Before visiting the museum be sure to pass along Albert Street to enjoy the pure masterpieces of art nouveau.

The museum is housed in an apartment of K. Pēkšēns in the house that the architect built for himself in 1903. Here, with great taste recreated the original interior and furnishings. Work is still going on, but today we can see the entrance hall, living room and fireplace room. Here – more than 500 items of the modern art era: the furniture, dishes, clothes, home furnishings.

By the way, this house also has historical significance: in the beginning of XX century there lived and worked prominent Latvian culture figures J. Rosenthal and R. Blaumanis. You may visit their museum on the 5th floor.
